Columbus players arrived in poor condition at the NHL camp – head coach furious: “I made it very clear”
Columbus Blue Jackets head coach Rick Bowness says that two players have arrived at the team’s training camp in poor physical condition. Bowness does not name the players.
Bowness stated outright that the NHL training camp rules saved the duo from trouble. According to the agreement, the camp’s activities are limited to three hours per day.
– When the three-hour rule expires, we will take action to fix things, Bowness said according to The Athletic.
According to The Athletic, Bowness urged players to arrive at camp in the best possible condition after the summer. He kept in touch with the players over the summer emphasizing this point. However, the message did not reach two players as intended.
– I made my expectations very clear in one-on-one meetings at the end of last season, Bowness said.
Bowness was hired as head coach of Columbus last January. The team’s final weeks of the regular season were weak, and ultimately, they missed the playoffs. After the last game of the regular season, Bowness was extremely upset.
– You just have to look at the stats: three hits, 23 turnovers. I don’t know if I’ll be back here, but if I do, I will change this culture. These guys don’t care. Losing doesn’t bother them. How can they go out on the ice and play like that? It should have been done a month ago, Bowness fired back last April.
Bowness said those players are “saved by the (NHL’s) three-hour (training camp) rules.”
He would not name the players.
