The New Jersey Devils have signed a one-year, two-way contract with Finnish defenseman Topias Vilen. The contract is worth $850,000 in the NHL and $150,000 in the AHL.

Vilen, 23, was the Devils’ 5th round pick in 2021. He has been with the organization for three seasons now. Last season, Vilen made his NHL debut, playing two games with the Devils.

In the past season, Vilen scored 27 points (4+23) in 61 games with AHL team Utica Comets. Overall, he has played 173 games in the minors, totaling 80 points (7+73).

Vilen was part of the Finnish national team training camp last spring. However, he was not selected for the Finnish World Championship team.

Before moving to North America, Vilen played in the Liiga, representing his youth club Pelicans.
