The San Jose Sharks announce that they have signed a five-year extension with their superstar Macklin Celebrini.

The contract guarantees Celebrini an impressive $18.8 million in annual earnings. It will take effect from the 2027-28 season, as the forward’s entry-level contract still covers next season. The total value of the new deal is $94 million.

With this massive contract, Celebrini will become the NHL’s highest-paid player in a year. He will surpass Leo Carlsson, who earns $18 million this season.

Celebrini, 20, is the first overall pick in the 2024 draft. He recorded an impressive 115 points with 45 goals and 70 assists in 82 games last season, finishing fourth in the NHL scoring race. In his rookie season, Celebrini scored 63 points with 25 goals and 38 assists in 70 games.

Celebrini represented Canada in the last two spring World Championships and this year’s Olympic tournament. He was part of the team that won the Olympic silver medal.
