Young Lions: top result!
The Young Lions defeated the United States in the World Junior Summer Showcase tournament in a match played on Wednesday evening. The final score was 3-2 in favor of Finland.
The scoring for the Young Lions was opened in the first period by Vilho Vanhatalo. The United States equalized when Ethan Wyttenbach succeeded.
At the end of the second period, Finland scored two goals in quick succession. First, Ilari Kapanen put Finland in the lead, and a couple of minutes later, Eetu Orpana extended the lead to two goals. The United States narrowed the gap in the final period with a short-handed goal by Sammy Nelson, but the Young Lions’ lead held until the end, led by goalkeeper Patrik Kerkola.
The Young Lions first won against the United States’ white team with a score of 4-1 and then lost to the United States’ blue team 1-5. As they headed into Wednesday’s match, the United States had consolidated its two teams into one group.
Next, the Young Lions will face Canada on Friday night at 2:00 AM Finnish time. On Saturday, they will take on Sweden starting at 7:00 PM.
