Jussi Ahokkaalla a great start in the AHL
Jussi Ahokas‘ career as an AHL head coach started impressively, as the team led by the Finn, Colorado Eagles, secured a 2–0 away victory against the Tucson Roadrunners in the early hours of Sunday.
The 45-year-old Ahokas is in his first season at the helm of the Eagles. The Eagles are the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s top team, the Colorado Avalanche.
Ahokas aims for a head coaching position in the NHL in the future. However, the path to the Avalanche bench recently became complicated when the team signed a four-year extension with their current head coach, Jared Bednar.
Last season, Ahokas led the Kitchener Rangers to the Memorial Cup championship in Canada’s junior league finals.
Ahokas’s achievements also include World Championships with the under-18 and under-20 teams as head coach of Finland. In the league, Ahokas has coached KooKoo and TPS during his career.
