A great comeback from the Little Lions – Canada organized a brutal slaughter in the final
The Little Lions secured victory in the bronze match of the Hlinka Gretzky Cup on Saturday evening in Edmonton, Canada. The Finnish under-18 national team defeated Slovakia with a score of 3–2, claiming the prestigious tournament’s third place.
Finland’s victory came in a spectacular fashion, as the team rallied from two goals down to equalize and ultimately take the lead.
The goal scorers for the Little Lions were Paavo Fugleberg, Luca Santala, and Roni Kuukasjärvi. Fugleberg and Kuukasjärvi recorded 1+1 in the match.
Finland’s gold medal dreams were dashed in the semifinals with a 3-6 loss to Canada.
In the final, Canada shifted into an even higher gear. The hosts crushed the USA, who won the tournament last year, with a score of 8-1. Brock England, Maddox Schultz, and Liam Pue each scored two goals for Canada. Canada’s super prospect Landon DuPont recorded 0+4 in the final.
The championship of the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, held since 1991, was Canada’s 26th.
