Wife’s harsh revelation about Patrik Laine’s difficult times: “He thought he was going to die”
Patrik Laine’s wife Jordan Leigh Laine went through the Finnish hockey player’s difficult times in an interview with The Suburban.
Laine’s challenges began to accumulate in 2021 when his father Harri Laine passed away. Laine did not have proper time to grieve due to the NHL routine, which caused him insomnia among other issues. At worst, Laine’s sleep was reduced to just a few hours.
The situation escalated when Laine’s team, the Columbus Blue Jackets, was on an away game trip in Vancouver. Laine experienced a severe panic attack at that time.
– He thought he was going to die. The team called and said they didn’t want to send him home alone. They flew me to be with him. After that, he took a break from hockey, Leigh Laine said.
Laine enrolled in the NHL’s support program in January 2024 and was sidelined for the rest of the season. This marked the end of his time in Columbus.
In August 2024, Laine and his wife established the “From Us To You” foundation, aimed at promoting mental health awareness.
For the 2024-25 season, Laine moved to the Montreal Canadiens, where he played for two seasons. However, last season, Laine’s number of games was limited to just five due to injury.
Laine’s contract ended with the past season, and he will become a free agent this summer.
