Watch: Tom Wilson challenged the French giant to a fight – coach: “That’s pretty easy for him”
MILANO.
A fight was seen in the match between Canada and France at the Olympics.
The scuffle broke out seven minutes before the end of the match. At that point, the score was already 10-2.
This was not about waking up the team, but rather revenge. France’s 195 cm and 102 kg Pierre Crinon violently took down Nathan MacKinnon behind the goal. The hit connected somewhat with MacKinnon’s head, but the Colorado Avalanche superstar was able to continue the game.
However, Crinon had to answer for his actions against Canada’s tough guy Tom Wilson. The 193 cm and 103 kg Wilson challenged Crinon to a fight but did not appreciate that Crinon pulled him down to the ice by his jersey. The referees had already intervened when Wilson attacked again.
The article continues after the X post. If the video does not appear, you can watch it here.
The video shows from Wilson’s gestures that he considered Crinon’s fight dirty. According to international rules, both fighters were given game misconduct penalties and sent straight to the showers.
After the match, the fight was commented on from Canada’s camp.
– He does a lot of things and that’s what he’s known for in Washington. Our star player was punched, and it was great to see him respond to it, Drew Doughty said.
– He does a lot more, but it was great to see him defend MacKinnon.
– You can see how tightly such a team bonds. When you put on the national team jersey, it doesn’t matter what teams you’ve played for before or what has happened in the past. We are in this together. It was great to see [Wilson defending MacKinnon], Crosby said.
Canada’s head coach Jon Cooper thought there was nothing strange about the situation.
– It was quite a harmless thing. Wilson is much more than that. He is a really good hockey player. For him, it’s pretty easy to defend his teammate, Cooper said about Wilson, who actually achieved a Gordie Howe hat trick in the game, collecting a goal, an assist, and a fight.
Cooper was also asked if he was afraid that MacKinnon would get hurt in the situation.
– For a moment. He is made pretty tough. It takes a harder hit for him not to be able to play.
