The USA’s goalkeeper gulped from halfway – “I am colorblind”
MILANO.
In the Olympic match between the United States and Denmark, the most unusual goal of the games so far was seen.
Denmark’s Nicholas Jensen fired the puck from the red line towards the goal. To everyone’s astonishment, the puck went into the net and the goalpost began to scream.
After the match, USA’s goalkeeper Jeremy Swayman stepped in front of the media.
– It was perfectly at the height between the stands and the boards. I completely lost it, Swayman said.
– Of course, I would want to take that back, but especially at this level, you just have to keep a cool head even after something like that.
In some studios, it was speculated whether the dark boards made it difficult for Swayman to see the puck. The Boston Bruins’ goalie gave a great response.
– I am colorblind, so that didn’t bother me at all.
Swayman was also asked how the team reacted after the slip.
– I am really proud of how they supported me. My confidence never wavered at any point. We handled the job.
USA’s star center Jack Eichel commented on Swayman’s situation like this:
– Sway has good confidence. He knows he can stop that kind of shot 99 times out of 100. It was just a strange coincidence. I also lost the puck to the lights a couple of times, Eichel said.
The head coach of the United States Mike Sullivan never considered pulling Swayman out.
– We trust him. He is a good goalie, Sullivan said.
The USA won the match with a score of 6-3.
