The incredible ironman streak of the NHL veteran stretches on – has risen to second place of all time!
Veteran defenseman Brent Burns, 41, representing the Colorado Avalanche, extended his ironman streak in the NHL to 990 games during a matchup against the Winnipeg Jets. Winnipeg won the game 3-1.
Burns simultaneously moved up to second place in the all-time consecutive games played list, surpassing Keith Yandle (989). The top spot in that statistic is held by Phil Kessel with an impressive 1,064 consecutive games.
Burns’ ironman streak began in November 2013. He has played in every game for his team since then. At the start of the streak, Burns was with the San Jose Sharks, he played for the Carolina Hurricanes for the last three seasons, and now he is playing in Colorado for his first season.
Burns, who started his NHL career with the Minnesota Wild, has played a total of 1,562 regular season games in the league (270+668=938). In this season’s 65 games, he has recorded 9+19=28 points.
Brent Burns is suiting up in his 990th consecutive game today and now sits second, behind only Phil Kessel, for the longest streak in NHL history! Will Burns take the crown next season?
