The dark streak of the Lionesses is over – Switzerland down!

The dark streak of the Lionesses has finally been broken. The Finnish women’s ice hockey national team managed to play a record 143 minutes in the Olympics without scoring a goal.
Against Switzerland, the copper was finally broken. The Lionesses were freed from the agony by Viivi Vainikka, who scored on the power play to give Finland the lead in the second period.
More goals were seen in the second period. Julia Liikala finished it off to make it 2-0, Alina Müller narrowed it down to 1-2 while short-handed, and during the same penalty Sanni Vanhanen scored the final score of 3-1. No more goals were seen in the match, giving Finland their first victory in this tournament.
For Finland, the match was a good way to wash their faces after two disappointing games. However, there are still dark clouds over the team, as star player Susanna Tapani was unable to play against Switzerland. The coaching staff has been silent about it, but Tapani apparently has some kind of injury.
Finland will play the last group stage match against Canada on Thursday.
