The attacker tarnished by the rape case received a contract – a harsh statement from a teammate
In the rape trial that shook Canadian hockey circles, Dillon Dube, who was accused, is one step closer to returning to the NHL.
According to NHL reporter Frank Seravalli, Dube, 27, who was acquitted of the charges, is about to sign a contract with AHL team Springfield Thunderbirds. This is the farm team of the St. Louis Blues, which plays in the NHL.
Dube, who has represented the Calgary Flames throughout his NHL career, played last season in the KHL, where the forward scored 4+7=11 points in 42 games for Dinamo Minsk.
Alex Formenton, who was also embroiled in the same scandal and currently represents Ambri-Piotta in the Swiss league, commented on the forward’s situation on X.
– It’s great to see Dillon Dube returning to professional hockey. Cancel culture will never win. These guys cooperated with the justice system, they had their day in court, and now they are allowed to continue their lives, regardless of what you think about it, Formenton stated.
Dube is a second-round draft pick from 2016 by the Flames. The Canadian has played 327 regular-season games in the NHL, with stats of 52+70=127.
Dube was one of five Hockey Canada players acquitted of sexual assault charges in July from a 2018 incident in London, Ont.
Dube, now 27, played last season in Minsk in KHL.
