Teemu Levijoki has been appointed as the new head coach of the Austrian top club EC Red Bull Salzburg.

The club, which plays in the ICE Hockey League, announced on Monday that it had dismissed head coach Alan Letang and assistant coaches Jason Morgan and Adam Maglio from their positions. The decision came after a 0–6 home defeat to Linz.

The 50-year-old Levijoki moves to the position from within the organization. He has long coached the Red Bull Hockey Juniors, which plays in the Alps Hockey League. Finnish Ilkka Pakarinen will step up as the assistant coach from the same team.

Club executive Helmut Schlögl justified the change by citing insufficient performances in the early part of the season. Letang had only started as head coach of Salzburg this summer.

Levijoki takes command of one of Austria’s most successful clubs. Salzburg won four consecutive ICE Hockey League championships from 2022 to 2025. In each of these seasons, the club also celebrated the Austrian championship. Last spring, Graz 99ers ended Salzburg’s championship streak.

Salzburg will play its next match on Wednesday, October 21, when the club, currently sitting third from the bottom in the league, faces Olimpija Ljubljana at home under Levijoki’s command.
