Tappara lost its top prospect – transfer to Canada confirmed, NHL draft ahead

18-year-old Slovak forward Lucian Bernat is moving from Tappara to North America as he joins the Owen Sound Attack, a team playing in the Canadian junior league OHL. The club confirmed the signing on Tuesday.

Bernat has played the last three seasons with Tappara’s junior teams. In the recently concluded season, he recorded 31 points (15+16) in 31 games with the U20 team. He also played for the Slovak U18 national team and participated in the spring World Championships, where he collected 4 points (1+3) in seven games.

He is considered a potential NHL draft pick in the upcoming draft. Daily Faceoff predicts he will be selected at number 98, and NHL Central Scouting listed him as the 39th best European skater in his age group this spring.

Bernat says he is excited about this new phase in his career.

– I am proud to sign a contract with Owen Sound Attack, and I can’t wait for the season to start. The OHL offers a great opportunity to develop my game and play in one of the best junior leagues in the world, Bernat said in the club’s press release.

Owen Sound Attack’s head coach Keenan Reynolds believes Bernat will bring versatility to the team.

– Lucian is a skilled power forward who brings a rare combination of physicality, competitiveness, and playmaking ability to our team, Reynolds said.

The club’s CEO Tyler Nother also expects immediate results from Bernat.

– We believe Lucian will make an impact in our league right away. Fans will appreciate his combination of skill and size, Nother said.
