Defender Derek Daschke, who played for Lukko last season, may continue his career in Germany’s DEL2 league.

According to the German site Eishockey.net, Eisbären Regensburg is targeting the 28-year-old American defender and considers him a primary option to strengthen their defense for the next season.

However, a potential contract is not yet certain. The decision depends on Corey Trivino‘s situation. If Trivino obtains the sought-after German citizenship, a foreign player spot will open up for Regensburg that Daschke could fill.

Daschke played last season in both the AHL with the Abbotsford Canucks organization and in Liiga with Lukko. Prior to that, he played for the ECHL’s Utah Grizzlies, where the defender recorded 56 points in 65 games during the 2024–25 season.

If Trivino’s naturalization does not occur, Regensburg also has another option. The team could turn its attention to German defender Stanislav Dietz, who would not take up a foreign player spot.
