Stanley Cup winner Evgeny Kuznetsov: new team
Former NHL power forward Evgeny Kuznetsov has found a new team.
The 34-year-old Stanley Cup champion has signed a one-year contract with Sibir Novosibirsk, which plays in the KHL. Kuznetsov sought a contract in the NHL during the summer, but a potential return to North America is now postponed for at least another year.
Kuznetsov has played 743 regular season games in the NHL over 11 seasons, with a total of 173+402=575 points. The Russian talent left the NHL and moved to the KHL in the fall of 2024. In the KHL, Kuznetsov has represented three different teams over the past two seasons: SKA St. Petersburg, Metallurg Magnitogorsk, and most recently Salavat Yulaev Ufa.
Kuznetsov is particularly remembered for his long and successful career with the Washington Capitals. At his best, the Russian was considered one of the most dangerous offensive players in the NHL.
As a two-time World Championship gold medalist, he celebrated the Stanley Cup championship with the Capitals in the spring of 2018. The skilled center was one of the key players in his team’s championship spring.
