Pekka Virta: long contract
After a long and successful coaching career in ice hockey, Pekka Virta continues his career at TUTO Hockey.
Virta, 56, has signed a remarkable 3+2-year extension as the sports director of the Turku-based team playing in Mestis. The contract runs until the spring of 2031.
– A long contract provides job security and the opportunity to do things properly. In sports, development takes time, and sustainable success cannot be built with projects lasting just a few months, Virta stated in the club’s press release.
Virta is now in his second season as the sports director of TUTO Hockey. Before that, the hockey influencer who coached Lukko to the Finnish championship in 2021 served as a consultant for the team for a year.
Having already ended his coaching career for health reasons, Virta has served as head coach in the Liiga for Lukko, as well as KalPa, TPS, Ässät, and SaiPa.
