A defender known from HIFK and JYP has found a new team in Finland.
The Mestis team Joensuun Kiekko-Pojat, stuck at the bottom, has made a contract for the rest of the season with Joona Lehmus. The 24-year-old Lehmus’s contract includes options for the Liiga and abroad, giving him the possibility to move to the Liiga or abroad during the season.
Lehmus joins Kiekko-Pojat after spending the beginning of the season without a team. Last season, he played 29 Liiga games with JYP, achieving 1+6 points. The season also included 19 games in Mestis with KeuPa HT, where the defender scored 4+15=19 points in those 19 games.
Lehmus has a total of 78 games of experience in the Liiga. He represented JYP for the last two seasons and before that played for HIFK for two seasons. His Liiga stats are 3+13=16.
In Mestis, Lehmus has appeared in 66 games over three seasons. In addition to KeuPa, he has played in the league with Kiekko-Vantaa.
– I am excited to arrive in Joensuu. A long summer behind and now I have a strong hunger to get to work. It’s nice to be part of this process that is happening here in Joensuu. A big goal is to help the team turn the ship towards victories, Lehmus says in the club’s announcement.
Lehmus will immediately get to work with his new team. He will be available for Kiekko-Pojat on Thursday when the team faces KeuPa at home.
