Oh! Confusing names at the top of the Lions' points exchange

Finland plays in the Olympic semifinals against Switzerland or Italy on Wednesday.

So far, the Lions have played three matches in the tournament. They suffered a 1-4 loss against Slovakia, a 4-1 victory against Sweden, and a crushing 11-0 win against Italy.

In terms of offensive production, the responsibility lies primarily with Finland’s notable NHL players: Mikko Rantanen, Roope Hintz, Sebastian Aho, Mikael Granlund, and Miro Heiskanen.

However, Finland’s best lines so far have been the third and fourth lines. The top spot in the team’s internal scoring race is shared by Joel Armia and Kaapo Kakko, who have both accumulated 2+2 points.

Armia was a skilled goal scorer early in his career. In the NHL, he has developed into a steady and reliable two-way player. That is his role with the Lions as well. Armia battles in the fourth line and on the penalty kill, but on the other hand, he also gets responsibility on the second power play.

– I have enjoyed every game. We have a great team, it’s really nice to play, Armia said after the Lions’ practice.

In the opening game, Armia played the third least among forwards. He had a bit more responsibility against Sweden, but against Italy, he again played the second least among forwards. We asked Armia if he was surprised that he has also produced well given his responsibilities.

– Not really. I trust myself and know what my skills are and what I can do. I know I am a pretty good player, Armia said.

– There are always different situations in a game that need to be addressed. Sometimes you get the chance to score a goal, and sometimes you end up doing something completely different. Every role is important, and everyone contributes to the outcome.

We also asked if Armia would like more ice time. The evidence in that regard has been presented.

– As I said, all roles are important. What the game brings, that’s the story of the day. I am ready to do anything in this team, it doesn’t matter to me.

Armia also commented on Switzerland’s Kevin Fiala injury. Fiala’s tournament and entire season ended in an unfortunate way when he fell on his own leg during a battle situation. Both Armia and Fiala earn their living with the Los Angeles Kings.

– I sent a message. Really sad news. I would never want anyone to suffer injuries. A great player and person. I feel really bad for him.
