Sparta Sarpsborg, playing in Norway’s top league, has filed for bankruptcy. The club announced this on its website.

– The board has been trying to find solutions to the financial situation so that the club could continue its operations. Unfortunately, no financial solution has been found that would allow for responsible continuation of activities, the club states in its announcement.

– This is a very sad day for all those who have invested their time, commitment, and resources into the club.

The bankruptcy announcement came at an inconvenient time. The new season is about to start, and Sparta Sarpsborg was set to play its first match next Thursday.

Last season, Sparta Sarpsborg finished sixth in the regular season and was eliminated in the quarter-finals. The club was founded in 1958. Its last championship was won in the 2011 season.
