NHL: big contract news echoed – lucrative extension deal for the star captain
The Vegas Golden Knights have made a significant decision for their future. The team confirmed on Saturday that they have signed their captain Mark Stone, 34, to a two-year contract extension.
The new contract will take effect in a year and has a total value of 18 million dollars. Stone will earn an average of nine million dollars per season going forward. For the upcoming season, the forward will earn 9.5 million dollars under his old contract.
The Canadian forward has been one of the most important players for the Golden Knights since the team acquired him from the Ottawa Senators at the 2019 trade deadline. Stone has served as the team’s captain since 2020.
Last season, the veteran proved he still belongs among the NHL’s elite forwards. Stone played 68 regular-season games and recorded impressive stats of 28+45=73.
In the playoffs, Stone was also in a significant role. He finished with stats of 7+5=12 in 17 games and was instrumental in leading Vegas all the way to the Stanley Cup finals.
Stone is already one of the most significant players in the franchise’s history. He captained the Golden Knights to their only Stanley Cup championship in the team’s history in the spring of 2023.
