Pittsburgh Penguins’ young forward Benjamin Kindel, 19, was hospitalized on Tuesday after suffering a medical emergency on the team’s plane.

The Penguins were traveling away from Salt Lake City after their away game when Kindel’s condition deteriorated shortly after takeoff. As a result, the plane had to turn back to the airport.

An ambulance was called to the airport, which transported Kindel to the University of Utah Hospital for further examination.

Pittsburgh later stated in a press release that Kindel is conscious and his condition is stable.

– The health and safety of our players and the privacy of their families are of utmost importance to us, the Penguins stated in their press release.

No further details have been provided about the cause of the medical emergency. The team promised to update on Kindel’s situation when more information is available.

The Penguins were concluding a four-game road trip. The team suffered a 4–5 loss to the Utah Mammoth on Monday. Kindel played nearly 19 minutes in that game.

Kindel is Pittsburgh’s first-round pick in the summer of 2025. The Canadian forward was selected 11th overall in the NHL Draft.

In his second season in the NHL, Kindel has recorded two goals and two assists in nine games this season. Last season, he finished with 35 points (17+18) in 77 regular-season games.
