HIFK announced on Wednesday that it has fired head coach Olli Jokinen and his coaching team. At the same time, it announced that Tommi Miettinen will be the head coach for the remainder of the season.

On Thursday, HIFK informed that Miettinen’s coaching team will be joined by two names. Ville Viitaluoma is moving from the head coach position of HIFK’s U20 team to the coaching staff of the senior team, and Jan Lundell, who has served as the club’s goaltending coordinator, will continue as the goaltending coach and team manager.

Viitaluoma has been coaching HIFK’s U20 team since the 2024–25 season. Under his leadership, the team has started the current season strongly and currently leads the U20 SM league.

Before his coaching career, Viitaluoma had a long playing career. He played a total of 745 regular season games and 83 playoff games in the Liiga. During his career, he also represented HIFK.

Lundell is also a very familiar name to HIFK. He has been responsible for the club’s goaltending coaching and has served as the team manager for the senior team for the last two seasons.

Lundell worked as the goaltending coach for HIFK’s Liiga team from 2012 to 2025. He took on the role after retiring from his playing career in the spring of 2012.

The newly formed coaching staff of HIFK will be seen behind the bench on Friday when the team faces Kiekko-Espoo in an away game.
