The career of Kasper Lundell, who represented HIFK last season, has taken a harsh turn in North America.

The AHL team Charlotte Checkers has sent the 22-year-old Finnish forward down a league to the ECHL’s Savannah Ghost Pirates. Savannah announced the transfer on Tuesday.

Lundell left HIFK last summer and surprisingly headed to North America. He signed a one-year two-way contract with Charlotte.

However, the new career has not started as expected. Lundell has played only one AHL game at the beginning of the season, where he did not register any points.

Now the Finnish player’s journey continues in the ECHL, which is considered the third highest professional league in North America after the NHL and AHL.

Last season, Lundell played 38 Liiga games for HIFK and collected seven points (3+4) in those games.

In total, the forward, who played three seasons with HIFK, accumulated 101 games in the Liiga with 16+10 points.

Lundell’s older brother is the Finnish star of the Florida Panthers, Anton Lundell. Charlotte serves as the AHL affiliate for the Panthers, while Savannah is the organization’s ECHL partner team.
