The returnee’s blade from Kiekko-Espoo is hot.
Last season, Jere Väisänen, who scored 25 points in 60 regular season games, has started the season strongly. The winger has tallied 15 points (7+8) in the first 15 games.
On Wednesday evening at the Metro Arena against KooKoo, Väisänen recorded 1+1. The forward assisted the home team’s first goal and scored the second himself while shorthanded. The Espoo team ultimately won the game 4–2.
– The season has started well, and I have found a good line. We have been doing well together, and it feels like our performance is improving all the time. It has been great, Väisänen told SuomiKiekko after the KooKoo game.
This season is the 26-year-old Väisänen’s second in the domestic Liiga. Before moving to Kiekko-Espoo, Väisänen spent four seasons in the NCAA in the United States with the Bemidji State University team.
– The game is quite different in that small rink. In college, they play just over 30 or 40 games, so it’s pretty intense every night, and the effort is high. However, the Liiga is much more puck-oriented, and there is a lot more skill here, Väisänen compares the Liiga and the NCAA.
Kiekko-Espoo continues the season on Friday against HIFK in a Hockey Night game. Väisänen predicts a good atmosphere and a physical and fast-paced game.
– It will demand our best, Väisänen anticipates.
