League champion out of KHL – here is the new team
Familiar to the league, Swedish defender Robin Press leaves the KHL rinks behind and moves to Germany. He has signed a one-year contract with DEL team Kölner Haien.
– Robin is a defender who has a significant impact on the game at both ends of the ice. We have been following his development for some time as one of the best offensive defenders in one of Europe’s strongest leagues, commented the sports director of Köln, Matthias Baldys, in the club’s statement.
Press, 31, played in the KHL for the previous five seasons, first representing Severstal Cherepovets for two seasons and then Metallurg Magnitogorsk for the last three seasons. Last season, he recorded 5+36=41 points in 62 regular season games and 5+5=10 points in 15 playoff games. Press won the KHL championship in 2024.
Before his KHL years, Press was seen in the Liiga with Lukko for two seasons from 2019 to 2021. He scored strong points of 25+52=77 in 117 regular season games. In his last season, he won the Finnish championship with Lukko and also topped the Liiga’s defensemen scoring list with 48 points.
Earlier in his career, Press has played in the SHL, AHL, and ECHL, among others.
