Last season was completely unplayed – A familiar Finnish player from the League is now moving to Mestis
The Mestis club IPK has made a comprehensive agreement with forward Tuomas Vartiainen for the next season, which includes a mutual option until October 31, 2025.
Vartiainen, 29, did not play anywhere last season. Before that, he spent two seasons abroad playing in Denmark and France.
IPK is a familiar club for Vartiainen from the 2018-19 season. He recorded 37 points (19+18) in 48 games with IPK at that time.
– Vartiainen is a powerful and skilled winger with the ability to produce results in the offensive zone. Vartsa did not find a suitable team for him last season, but the intention was still to continue playing hockey. He became available somewhat unexpectedly, but we quickly reached an agreement in a way that satisfied both parties. It’s great to have Tuomas back in Iisalmi, and we believe he will bring us scoring power and experience to the locker room, commented IPK’s development manager Niko Härkönen in the club’s announcement.
Originally from Oulu, Vartiainen has also played in the Liiga, where he has mostly represented KalPa. Vartiainen played for KalPa from 2019 to 2022, and he has also played a few games for Kärpät and Jukurit. In the Liiga, Vartiainen has played a total of 181 regular season games (17+28=45) and three playoff games.
