Konsta Helenius on the hot question of the Lions: “Sure, that would work for me.”
ZÜRICH. Konsta Helenius arrived on short notice for the Swiss World Championships when the Buffalo Sabres’ season ended in the second round of the NHL playoffs. However, the possibility of a World Championship trip had been plotted behind the scenes for some time.
– When the AHL season ended, Jere Lehtinen called and asked if I was interested, and I said, of course I am. I still had the opportunity in Buffalo, so the games continued there. We talked about the possibility of joining if I fell off the second line, Helenius recalls.
The past season was excellent for Helenius in every way. He broke through as a superstar at the AHL level, scoring 21 goals and 42 assists for a total of 63 points in 63 games. Towards the end of the season, he played four games in the NHL playoffs and scored two goals.
The hot question now is which line Helenius will be placed on with the Lions. A broad smile appears on the forward’s face when he is mentioned the possibility of playing alongside Mikael Granlund and Aleksander Barkov on the first line.
– That would definitely work for me. I don’t mind that. Whatever is given, I have to put my best effort forward, Helenius admits.
Having just arrived in Zurich, Helenius has already met the team, but otherwise, the forward is still out of the loop regarding the World Championship plans. He does not have definite information on whether he will play against Great Britain tomorrow.
