Kasperi Kapanen has started the NHL season brightly with the Edmonton Oilers. The Finnish forward has recorded 5 points (3 goals and 2 assists) in 12 games, which places him fifth in his team’s internal scoring list.

In one statistic, however, Kapanen has outperformed the entire NHL. He has clocked the highest skating speed of the early season.

The top speed was recorded against the San Jose Sharks, when Kapanen’s pace reached 24.05 miles per hour. Converted to kilometers, this figure is about 39 kilometers per hour.

– If I’m at the top, it means I’m still a capable skater. Skating has always been something I’m good at. I’ve always been one of the fastest on the ice. But even though it’s my strength, I love working on it and improving in that area, Kapanen commented to NHL.com.

Kapanen has surpassed the 22 miles per hour mark nine times this season, which qualifies him for fourth place in the statistic. Leading the sprints is teammate Connor McDavid, who has accelerated to 22 miles per hour an impressive 26 times.
