Jesse Puljujärvi was suspended - will there be more?

Jesse Puljujärvi‘s Wednesday ejection has led to further actions in Switzerland. The Genève-Servette forward has been provisionally suspended for one match.

This is a temporary penalty, and the final consequences of the case have not yet been determined. The Swiss newspaper Blick reports that a disciplinary process has been initiated regarding Puljujärvi’s hit. Therefore, the length of the suspension may still change.

Puljujärvi was sent off in the first period of the match against Lausanne after hitting Erik Brännström in the head. Brännström avoided a more serious injury in the incident. He mentioned that he noticed Puljujärvi just before the impact.

– He came from behind another player, and I saw him only at the last moment. I know I need to act smarter in such situations myself. It could have been worse, Brännström commented to Blick.

Brännström later became the decisive player in the match. The Swedish defenseman succeeded in the shootout and sealed a 6–5 victory for Lausanne.

Puljujärvi has been in strong form at the start of the season. Eight games have produced stats of 6+5=11, placing him second in the Swiss top league’s scoring list. Ajoie’s Kristian Tanus leads the scoring list with 6+6=12.
