Finnish defender Jesper Peltonen, 28, playing in the Swiss top league for HC Lugano, is facing a long sick leave.

Peltonen injured his left hand in Tuesday’s match against Genève-Servette and had to leave the game early. The Finnish defender is estimated to be out for about a month.

According to Swiss media RSI, Peltonen was seen in Thursday’s practice with his left arm in a sling.

This season, Peltonen has played ten games in the Swiss top league with stats of 0+2=2. Last season, the Finnish defender recorded 2+4=6 points in 56 regular season games.

The defender is the son of Lions legend Ville Peltonen. His father also played for Lugano in his time and celebrated the club’s Swiss championship in the spring of 2006.

Younger Peltonen has represented Lugano since spring 2023. Before that, he played in the Swiss top league for EHC Kloten. In addition to him, the current team includes Finnish players Lassi Thomson, Rasmus Kupari, and Jere Innala.

Peltonen has also made his debut with the Lions. The defender played two A-international matches in the 2024–25 season.
