Jesse Puljujärvi is facing a suspension in the Swiss playoffs – see the situation
Jesse Puljujärvi representing Genève-Servette faces Fribourg in the Swiss league semifinals, which won the first meeting between the teams at home 3-1. Notable moments in the match included Puljujärvi’s hit in the closing moments of the third period.
Having performed strongly in the playoffs with 5+1 points in eight games, Puljujärvi hit Fribourg defender Maximilian Streule hard against the boards. Streule was injured in the incident.
Fribourg’s head coach Roger Rönnberg believes Puljujärvi deserves a suspension for his action. In the match itself, the Finnish player was not even penalized for the incident.
– I think it’s clearly a five-minute penalty. It was a hit to the head against the boards, Rönnberg ranted in an interview with Blick.
– They (the referees) have the opportunity to review the situation on video, but that wasn’t done this time. I believe Puljujärvi should be suspended, the coach continued.
Rönnberg could not provide further details about Streule’s playing status in the series.
– I am worried about Max. I hope it’s nothing serious. I saw him return to the ice once more, so let’s reassess the situation tomorrow.
The series between Genève-Servette and Fribourg continues on Monday evening.
