Canadian forward Derick Brassard, 38, who has played over a thousand regular season games in the NHL, is returning to the ice after more than two years away.

Brassard, who ended his career due to an ankle injury in the 2022-23 season, has signed a contract for the remainder of the season with Geneve-Servette, which plays in the Swiss league.

In his best NHL season, Brassard scored 60 points and will have several Finnish players as teammates in Geneva. This season, the Finnish players include Jesse Puljujärvi, Markus Granlund, Sakari Manninen, and Vili Saarijärvi. Among former NHL players, Jimmy Vesey and Jan Rutta also represent the team.

Brassard, who has also won World Championship gold in his career, was originally the 6th overall pick in the 1st round by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2006. The forward has recorded 215 goals and 330 assists for a total of 545 points in 1013 regular season games played in the NHL.
