Former ice hockey player Jere Karalahti, 50, has been in custody since October 2. He is suspected of a serious drug offense that occurred in Helsinki between June 1, 2025, and September 29, 2025.
Ilta-Sanomat now reports new information about Karalahti’s situation. Karalahti appealed the district court’s detention decision to the Helsinki Court of Appeal.
However, the Court of Appeal’s decision was harsh: the appeal was dismissed. Thus, Karalahti remains in custody.
Karalahti has been in investigative detention for just over 1.5 months now. Any possible charges must be filed by January 15. Karalahti himself has denied committing the crime.
