There is already interest from North America in the Lions’ World Championship team. In an interview with Iltalehti, Buffalo Sabres winger Konsta Helenius, 19, stated that he is interested in going to the World Championships held in Switzerland.

– If the call comes, of course I will go. There haven’t been any contacts yet, but I always want to represent Finland when possible, Helenius says.

Helenius has been in strong form in North America. The 19-year-old winger has recorded 51 points in 51 AHL games with stats of 18+32=50.

This season, Helenius has also played his first NHL games. In nine games, he has tallied 1+3 points.

Despite his young age, Helenius was seen in the World Championships already in the spring of 2024. The winger collected one assist in four World Championship games.

The World Championships will be held in Switzerland in Zurich and Fribourg from May 15 to 31.
