Huhu from Switzerland: Ville Peltonen in the sights of a giant club
Strongly relying on Finnish expertise, Ville Peltonen, who was promoted from assistant coach to head coach of Geneve-Servette during the season, is rumored to be heading to the Swiss giant SC Bern.
According to Berner Zeitung, Peltonen is one of the strongest candidates to replace Heinz Ehlers, who is reportedly returning to Denmark next season. Peltonen’s contract with Geneve-Servette expires at the end of this season.
In addition to Peltonen, another strong candidate for the new head coach of SC Bern is Lars Leuenberger, whose contract with HC Fribourg-Gottéron, however, continues into next season.
– Peltonen was once an assistant coach to Kari Jalonen, the coach who won the championship twice with Bern. Sports director Martin Plüss knows both candidates very well: he played under both Leuenberger and Peltonen and holds both in high regard, writes Angelo Rocchinotti from Berner Zeitung.
For Peltonen, Bern would be a familiar place, as he served as the team’s assistant coach between 2016 and 2018. In Switzerland, the 52-year-old lion icon has also acted as the head coach of Lausanne.
