Golden Lion Jussi Olkinuora: new team confirmed!
During the season, the goalkeeper Jussi Olkinuora, 34, who has been linked to several Liiga clubs, has finally found a new team.
Instead of returning to Finland, the veteran who has had a long career in the national team will continue his career with the Dresdner Eislöwen, which plays in the highest league in Germany. The club, currently at the bottom of the DEL league, announced Olkinuora’s contract for the remainder of the season on Monday evening.
– I am looking forward to a new challenge in Dresden. I know the team is currently at the bottom of the standings, but that motivates me. I want to help improve the situation and do my part to help Eislöwen get back on track. The discussions with the management were very convincing, and I am ready to give my all for the team, Olkinuora commented in the club’s announcement.
Olkinuora is one of the most successful players in the national team’s history. His trophy cabinet includes two World Championship golds, one World Championship silver, and an Olympic gold. Last season, the goalkeeper represented Löwen Frankfurt, which plays in Germany’s top league.
