Former NHL top draft pick involved in the rape case: new team confirmed
Defender Cal Foote, 26, who was acquitted of sexual assault charges, has found a new team.
The AHL team Chicago Wolves has signed Foote to a contract for the remainder of the season. Chicago Wolves is the farm team of the Carolina Hurricanes.
Foote was part of the Canadian sexual assault scandal along with four other players. They were found not guilty in July.
Last season, Foote played in Slovakia for HK 32 Liptovsky Mikulas. He recorded 30 points in 38 games with 3 goals and 27 assists.
Foote is the 14th overall pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the 2017 draft. He has played 145 regular season games (5+15=20) and 13 playoff games (0+2) in the NHL. Foote won the Stanley Cup in Tampa in 2021. In the NHL, he has also represented the Nashville Predators and the New Jersey Devils.
