Finnish goalie who played in the NHL: another new team
Finnish goalie Christopher Gibson‘s career takes another turn at a new address.
The 33-year-old goalkeeper has decided to leave the Italian HC Bolzano and will next join the Schwenninger Wild Wings, who play in the German DEL league. The team is currently ninth in the top tier of German hockey.
Gibson was without a team for most of the early season until he moved to Bolzano in December as a backup goalie. However, his responsibilities were limited: the Finn managed to play only four games before leaving the club. The goalkeeper’s contract included a clause allowing for a transfer to the DEL, which he has now decided to utilize.
NHL background and championship organization
Gibson has played 16 games in the NHL. He was part of the Tampa Bay Lightning’s roster when the team won the Stanley Cup in 2021, playing two NHL games that season.
The Finnish player, who has spent almost his entire career abroad, has only been seen in the Liiga during the 2023–24 season, when the goalkeeper represented Rauman Lukko.
