The Finnish players of the Dallas Stars made headlines during the NHL round played on Wednesday night.

Star defenseman Miro Heiskanen had to leave the game against the Washington Capitals due to injury. Mikko Rantanen, on the other hand, reached a historic milestone in the match.

Heiskanen was injured in the second period in a situation where Washington’s Justin Sourdif checked the Finnish star against the boards during a battle for the puck. Heiskanen did not return to the game.

There is still no detailed information about the severity of the injury or the potential length of the sick leave.

Heiskanen’s injury is a concerning setback for Dallas. The team’s top defenseman had accumulated 11 (3+8) points in the first 14 games of the season and had been averaging nearly 26 minutes of ice time per game.

Mikko Rantanen joined a rare Finnish club

Mikko Rantanen scored his team’s fifth goal and simultaneously reached the milestone of 800 points in the NHL regular season as the Stars defeated the Capitals 6–5.

Rantanen became only the fourth Finnish player to achieve this milestone.

Previously, only Teemu Selänne (1457 points), Jari Kurri (1398), and Saku Koivu (832) have broken this milestone among Finns.

Rantanen’s NHL career stats in 731 games now stand at 324 goals and 476 assists.

Roope Hintz was also in strong form, collecting three (1+2) points.

However, the biggest hero of the match was Dallas’s Jason Robertson, who scored three consecutive goals in just five minutes and 20 seconds during the second period.

Among the Finnish players of the Stars, Joel Kiviranta (1+0), Arttu Hyry (0+1), and Esa Lindell (0+1) also contributed points.
