SaiPa’s head coach Raimo Helminen, 62, has risen to become one of the hottest names in Finnish ice hockey coaching. The future of the experienced hockey legend is of interest not only to club teams but also to the Finnish Ice Hockey Association.
According to Urheilucast’s Esko Seppänen, the Ice Hockey Association has made an exceptionally large contract offer to Helminen for the position of head coach of the under-20 national team for next season.
– According to information from Urheilucast, the Finnish Ice Hockey Association made the largest ever U20 head coach contract offer to Raimo Helminen for this particular hockey autumn, Seppänen states.
Seppänen claims that the Ice Hockey Association would be willing to break previous salary ceilings to secure Helminen as the new head coach of the Young Lions.
– There has previously been a sort of ceiling for this position, but now they were ready to abandon that and tried to bring Raipe into the fold one way or another, Seppänen continues.
Helminen is coaching SaiPa for his third season, but his employer for next season is still open.
It has also been reported that Ilves is interested in the services of their club legend.
Helminen’s future is now becoming one of the most interesting questions in the Finnish coaching market, the resolution of which could trigger a real domino effect in the coaching market.
