Jokerit made a strong acquisition – a defender with 43 points to Helsinki
Helsinki Jokerit has strengthened its defense with American Andrew Lucas, 27. The club announces that it has signed a contract with the puck-moving defenseman for the remainder of the season.
Lucas moves to Jokerit from the Slovakian top league, where he has represented HC Banská Bystrica for two seasons.
Last season, Lucas played 60 games in the Slovak league, including playoffs, and collected impressive points of 3+40=43. This season, Lucas has recorded 1+4=5 points in nine games.
Jokerit’s sports director Olli-Pekka Yrjänheikki believes the 182-centimeter defenseman will bring much-needed additional skills to the team’s play.
– We have had a need to strengthen our defense with a player who brings movement and puck skills to the defense. Andrew fits this profile perfectly and will certainly give us more options for puck play, Yrjänheikki commented in the club’s announcement.
Before moving to Europe, Lucas played in North America, including with AHL team San Diego Gulls and for five seasons in the NCAA college league.
