Finland’s Olympic medalist retires at 29 – revealed a surprising reason to Iltalehti
The goalkeeper of the Finnish women’s national ice hockey team Anni Keisala has decided to end her professional career at the age of 29.
The decision to end her career began to mature during the season, and it was also influenced by a significant change in her personal life.
– When I came to Finland, the goal was to play at least until the Olympics and take it one season at a time. Once we found out that we would be adding to our family in the fall, it definitely made the decision easier, Keisala tells Iltalehti.
In terms of fitness, Keisala still had more to give to ice hockey.
– Yes, my body works quite well. I haven’t had any major injuries, but there’s a time for everything.
Her last team will be HPK, where she played during the silver medal-winning Aurora League season. In the spring, Keisala was also seen in goal for the Women’s Lions at the Milano-Cortina Olympics.
Keisala represented Finland in international competitions a total of nine times and won four World Championship bronze medals and one Olympic bronze medal during her career. In her club career, she played for teams such as LoKV, Team Kuortane, Kärpät, JYP, Ilves, the Swedish HV71, and spent her last seasons at HPK.
