Tappara strengthens with a familiar defender from the World Championships
Tappara has acquired a new reinforcement for its defense. The club has signed a two-month contract with defender Tommi Kivistö, 35. The contract includes an option for the rest of the season.
– We needed more reinforcement in defense, and we are pleased that we were able to bring Kivistö into the team on short notice. Our game schedule is intense, so a sufficient number of players is necessary. Kivistö is an experienced professional, and we believe he will adapt quickly to the Tappara jersey, commented Tappara’s GM Janne Vuorinen in the club’s press release.
Last season, Kivistö played in the Czech top league for the Mountfield team. In 46 games, the defensive defender collected four assists.
Earlier in his career, Kivistö has played in Switzerland and the KHL. In the league, he has been seen in the jerseys of Kärpät, Ilves, and Jokerit.
In the national team, Kivistö has played in one Olympics and three World Championships. He has won two World Championship silver medals.
