The league’s super season is turning out to be just as dramatic as advertised in advance.

In Tuesday’s match round, the flying HIFK defeated Ilves with a score of 2-1. The victory was the third in a row for the crisis-stricken team at the start of the season. All wins have come under the new head coach Tommi Miettinen.

HIFK’s strong performances have also been reflected in the league standings. Now the team has 23 points from 17 matches, placing the Helsinki team in 12th position. HIFK is no longer in the relegation zone but is instead in contention for a playoff spot.

How quickly situations change.

On Tuesday, KooKoo also managed to grab a three-point victory, as the team from the concrete city defeated Ässät 5-3. KooKoo is still at the bottom of the league, but after the coaching change, the team’s point pace has improved significantly, and the gap to others is continuously closing.

Particularly positive for KooKoo is that the team’s biggest stars Ville Meskanen, Veeti Miettinen, and Miska Siikonen are in great form. On Tuesday, the trio combined for a total of eight points.

Looking at the form guide for the last five matches, it appears that the three crisis teams at the start of the season—HIFK, KooKoo, and Jokerit—are on the rise. At the bottom are Sport, Ässät, and HPK.
