Jokerit captain heads to Mestikseen – new team confirmed
Helsinki’s Jokerit is making changes to its roster. The club’s former captain Saku Forsblom, 28, is moving on loan to Kiekko-Vantaa, which plays in the Mestis league.
Kiekko-Vantaa announced on Thursday that the defender’s loan agreement is valid until further notice. However, Jokerit can recall Forsblom back to their squad if necessary.
Forsblom served as the captain of Jokerit during the 2023–24 and 2025–26 seasons. He led the Helsinki club to the Mestis championship last spring.
However, the return to the Liiga has not gone as hoped for the experienced defender. Forsblom has played 12 games for Jokerit this season without any points.
Originally from Mikkeli, Forsblom has played a total of 70 Liiga games with Jukurit and Jokerit. In the Mestis, he has accumulated 218 games.
In addition to Forsblom, forward Jesse Liuksiala is continuing his season on loan at Kiekko-Vantaa. He can also be recalled back to Jokerit during the loan period.
