NHL superstar suspended – GM revealed what is happening behind the scenes
Detroit Red Wings star forward Dylan Larkin has become a hot name in the NHL trade market. The team’s interim GM Shawn Horcoff revealed on Thursday night that there is plenty of interest in the 30-year-old forward.
Larkin has requested a trade away from Detroit, and he will not play for the team again until a deal is arranged.
According to Horcoff, the situation is also reflected in the outreach from NHL teams.
– The truth is, when a player of Dylan’s caliber is available, the phone rings daily. And today my phone rang a lot, Horcoff said.
Larkin first requested a trade last summer when Detroit missed the playoffs for the tenth consecutive season.
A potential trade is complicated by the full no-trade clause in the forward’s contract. Larkin can decide for himself which team he is willing to move to.
Initially, the list of teams he would accept was limited to the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, and Vegas Golden Knights. Since then, the list has grown to ten teams.
New options have included the Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, New Jersey Devils, Tampa Bay Lightning, Utah Mammoth, and Washington Capitals.
However, Detroit is not willing to part with its captain on just any terms. The team has emphasized that any potential trade must serve its long-term goals.
The situation between Larkin and Detroit escalated this week when the forward skipped Wednesday’s practice. After this, he informed through his agent Pat Brisson that he would refuse to play until a trade is made.
The Red Wings responded to the decision by suspending their captain without pay.
The resolution will cost Larkin $41,237 per day. His eight-year contract has an annual salary of $8.7 million.
Larkin has played ten NHL games this season, recording 2+4=6 points.
