Fans in disbelief: 34-year-old NHL star signs a six-year mega contract
The Columbus Blue Jackets announced a surprising news on Tuesday, as the team reported that they have signed veteran forward Charlie Coyle to a massive six-year contract.
The 34-year-old Coyle’s new contract guarantees him an annual salary of six million dollars, raising the total value of the contract to 36 million dollars.
– Charlie made a huge impression on our team both on and off the ice. Keeping him in Columbus was our top priority, explained Blue Jackets CEO Don Waddell regarding the deal that raised eyebrows among fans.
– He is the embodiment of a true professional, tough, reliable, and a productive right-shot center, whose leadership and character are extremely valuable traits in this league, Waddell continued.
Coyle, who moved to Columbus for this season, played a full 82 regular season games with stats of 20+38=58, making him the fourth highest scorer on his team.
Coyle will be 40 years old when the contract that comes into effect next season expires.
