Big capture in the League: Petteri Lindbohm found a new team

TPS reacts to the long absence of its captain Niklas Friman with a notable defensive acquisition. Petteri Lindbohm joins the Turku team on a contract covering the rest of the season.

The 32-year-old Lindbohm has represented Helsinki IFK in recent seasons. The contract includes an option for playing abroad, so the defender has the opportunity to move overseas during the season.

Lindbohm brings an exceptional amount of experience to the team. In addition to the Liiga, he has played in the NHL, KHL, SHL, and the top league in Switzerland. He has won a world championship and Olympic gold with the national team.

TPS’s sports director Mika Suoraniemi says that Lindbohm quickly rose to the top of the club’s options.

– Petteri was at the top of our priority list in the market survey. We knew his primary goal was still to secure a playing position abroad, but through discussions, mutual interest quickly developed regarding the TPS option, Suoraniemi says in a statement.

Lindbohm has also explored the possibility of playing abroad over the summer. However, TPS’s approach came at the right time.

– However, the desire to play is strong, and it’s wonderful that this opportunity came now with TPS.

Lindbohm wants to bring confidence to TPS’s defense and at the same time help younger players develop.

– Strong defensive play has always been a matter of honor for me, and that is the most important thing I want to bring to the team. But with this experience, I have learned to get the best satisfaction from seeing the players around me, especially the younger ones, play better, achieve success, and advance in their careers.

According to Suoraniemi, Lindbohm is capable of taking on a significant role during Friman’s absence.

– Petteri is a very experienced and quality defender who brings us, above all, confidence in defensive play, physical strength, and leadership. He is capable of playing a big role and taking responsibility in demanding situations.
