Auston Matthews’ super ability impressed the NHL’s first overall pick: “Unreal”
In this year’s NHL draft, Gavin McKenna, selected first overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs, is eagerly awaiting the chance to play alongside the team’s long-time star Auston Matthews.
The 18-year-old McKenna plans to make the most of the potential opportunity to be placed on the same line as another NHL first overall pick.
– Playing alongside a player of that caliber would be something really special. I believe our chemistry would fit together quite well. He is an experienced player from whom I can learn a lot. He is an incredible player, and if I get the chance to play with him, I won’t pass up the opportunity, McKenna promises.
Especially one feature of Matthews, who scored 65 goals in his best NHL season, has already left McKenna in awe. It is the American’s ability to shoot the puck incredibly quickly.
– He is unreal. He is super smart, and of course, that shot release speed! When he is open, you just want to pass him the puck and hope to get an assist on his goal, McKenna planned.
Compared to Patrick Kane and Nikita Kucherov in playing style, McKenna is regarded as an elite playmaker and offensive rhythm setter, so at least on paper, it seems that the young man will sooner or later take over the previous spot of Mitch Marner, who currently plays for Vegas, as Matthews’ linemate.
